Launch Night is a big success
March 2010
SCARBOROUGH Athletic FC’s Back2Boro launch night has been hailed a huge success after nearly £1,400 was raised at the event.
Around 100 people attended the evening, held at Scarborough Rugby Club, with Boro fans looking to show their support for the campaign - which is designed to help raise awareness of the club’s lack of a ground in Scarborough and raise funds to assist a return to the town.
The centrepiece of the evening was an auction of Scarborough Athletic and Scarborough FC memorabilia, which created a large amount of interest.
Top billing in the auction was given to a 1990 match-worn away shirt, bearing the famous Black Death Vodka logo. The shirt sold for £300 to one lucky bidder.
Other lots included a 1972-73 Scarborough FC match shirt which sold for £105, while a 2003-04 number nine shirt worn by Mark Quayle created a lot of interest and eventually sold for £70.
A raffle on the night brought in nearly £400, while a quiz - won by a team which included big Boro fan Gavin Avison, who also celebrated his birthday on the evening - raised another £60.
Donations on the night and at the game against Parkgate earlier in the day raised another £150, and altogether the night brought in a grand total of just under £1,400.

The campaign steering group are now focussed on setting up other events, which include a race night and regular car boot sales at Lebberston market.
The campaign will also benefit from a ‘Money for Miles’ sponsored walk before the home game against Brodsworth in April - which is being jointly organised by the B2B group and the supporters’ club.
More details of those events will be released soon.
The B2B steering group is still looking for new members to come on board and help out with the campaign. If you can spare a couple of hours a week to help, contact James Hunter on 07787 563748 or james.hunter@back2boro.co.uk
